The winning trifecta of the Catch-A-Dream Organization, Drury Outdoors, and Tara Wildlife has once again made a dream hunt come true for one lucky individual. Mikey Sullivan, this year's Dream Season Television Catch-A-Dream Hunter, arrived at Tara Wildlife with his family for a weekend of hunting with the Dream Season Television Season 5 cast. No sooner had Mikey unpacked his bags than he took off to the deer woods with guide, Bobby Culbertson, and Mark & Terry Drury, in search of whitetail.

Each year, the Catch-A-Dream hunter gets the opportunity to take a buck with a rifle in the well known field at Tara, known as "Little Africa." Tara has been bow only for around 13 years, so this is an opportunity of a lifetime for anyone. The movement was slow compared to the Catch-A-Dream hunts in previous years, but all it took was one good buck to show up to make the hunt a success. Mikey spotted a good buck feeding into the field and decided to make the shot. At over 130 yards, Mikey put an excellent double lung shot on the buck, which ran just inside the wood line before piling up.

Mikey was greeted back at camp by a crowd of excited onlookers as he pulled up to the lodge with his buck. The weekend was capped off with an emotional banquet presentation by Catch-A-Dream's Dr. Marty Brunson, which put the whole weekend into perspective for those in attendance. Mikey and his family were great to be around at camp, and everyone at Tara Wildlife, Drury Outdoors, Catch-A-Dream, and Scent Blocker wish them nothing but the best.

  2. Hunter:Keith Kuehn
  3. Location:Iowa
  4. Weapon:TC Omega .50 Cal.
  5. Animal:150 4/8” 10 Pointer

Keith Kuehn and Rod Wilson were not about to let the passing of 2007 put a cramp on their style, as they were in Iowa for the New Year, hunting giant whitetails. On the first evening of 2008, the conditions were brutal. The temperature was zero degrees with 25 mile per hour winds, but Team Illinois wanted to make the most out of the opportunity so they stuck it out. As the hunt progressed, a shooter buck came out within gun range, but due to camera malfunctions and frozen bodies they couldn’t pull off a shot. However, the next evening the conditions were less severe, and the same buck from the previous evening made an appearance. Keith made the shot with his TC Omega muzzleloader and was thrilled to have put it all together on such a challenging hunt. Check out this hunt on the Dream Season Television Series, Season 5, “Land of the Giants,” coming this summer during Mossy Oak’s Tuesday Night Pursuits, only on the Outdoor Channel!

  5. Animal:157" Main Frame 8-point Double Beamed Whitetail

Story as told by Mark Drury:

What a way to ring in the New Year! I was hosting Mr. Duncan Dobie, editor of North American Whitetail magazine, with hopes of getting an opportunity to take a buck here in the late season. On the evening prior to his 61st birthday, we headed out for a classic late season hunt with a high temperature of 9 degrees. It was a high-pressure day after a major cold front, and we set out for a standing soybean field.

Earlier during the rut a neighbor had filmed an impressive double-beamed buck from the road in this same area. I set cameras out and hunted here during the rut hoping to see this buck, but he never showed up, and I was wondering if he was even around anymore.

Much to my surprise, this same buck appeared, and I immediately recognized him because of the double main beam. Duncan placed a perfect shot on him and took the widest buck of his life! He's 22 1/2 inches wide ands scores a 157". What a birthday present! The fact that Duncan came in to hunt was an honor and a privilege because I've been reading his articles since I was a young man, and I'm very happy that he was able to harvest this monster. Bingo!
